Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting was held as a Zoom conference call.
April 15, 2020
Present: Donna Bateman, Kristy Byers, Mary Kay Cooper, Shari Fiocca, Kevin Sing and Tim McGrath Temporary Administrative Assistant Shelly Lewis.
Absent: Becky Bouck and Joe Cerullo
Shari called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm. Kevin moved and Kristy seconded a motion to accept the March secretary’s report. Motion carried. Donna said that there were no deposits last month. She paid the phone and Administrative Assistant’s salary for March.
Membership: A renewal was received from Ed Jones. Tri-Star Cabinets in New Lenox also rejoined after a year’s absence. It was decided not to call non-renewals during this time when businesses are struggling.
Constant Contact: Shelly will spotlight Gallagher’s remodeling, the Wine Bar’s new Wine Garden and Fritz’s deep cleaning. She will also send out links for resources to include the Small Business Association loans. Various ideas were discussed for an email blast including: How are you doing? Are you still operating? Do you have any specials? How has your operation changed such as offering deliveries and a change of hours? We will advertise for you on social media. Any of the above could be used as long as they do not come off as a plea to renew membership.
Administrative Assistant: Kevin moved and Kristy seconded a motion to hire Mandie Wade. Motion carried. She will be hired at full salary during her training period; however, her month may run from the middle of one month to the middle of the next month. If she turns the job down, then Collen Hassel will be hired. Shari will contact the three candidates that were interviewed.
Scholarship: Kristy will scan and email the three essays from Lincoln-Way, one from Peotone and one from Providence to the board to vote on the winner.
Fireworks: The group agreed that it was not the time to ask for money from members. Having fireworks at the beginning Park District summer concert is too soon since no one knows when group gatherings will be allowed again. Labor Day may still work, but it is a waiting game.
Networking: It was decided to try a virtual Zoom networking event on Wednesday, April 22 at 1 pm. Shari will set up the Zoom event, and Shelly will send the invite to members.
Welcome Bags: Their distribution will be suspended until the stay at home ban is lifted. A list of whom did not get the bags will be kept until they are allowed to be delivered.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:12pm. The next meeting will be May 13 at 3:30 pm.
