Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting was held as a Zoom conference call.
November 11, 2020
Present: Donna Bateman, Becky Bouck, Kristy Byers, Joe Cerullo, Mary Kay Cooper, Shari Fiocca, Tim McGrath and Kevin Sing along with Administrative Assistant Mandie Wade.
Shari called the meeting to order at 4:02 pm. Kristy moved and Kevin seconded a motion to accept the October secretary’s report. Motion carried. Donna paid the phone bill and Mandie’s October salary. Due to Veteran’s Day, the bank was closed. Donna will email the October treasurer’s report to the board. She transferred the matured CD money to a 13 month CD at BMO, which will mature Nov. 2021.
Trunk n Treat: Mandie reported that the PTO sponsored event went well with an estimated 400 children visiting about 18 trunks. Trunks were very creatively decorated. Once set-up, the event went smoothly. Kristy noted that $50 worth of candy was gone in the first 30 minutes.
Membership: Mandie is expecting renewals from Roadhouse 52 and the Wine Bar. Kevin moved and Kristy seconded a motion to keep the membership fees the same as 2020. Motion carried.
Nominations: Kevin Schuster from the Wine Bar and Kevin Molloy have volunteered to be placed on the ballot. Kevin Schuster’s placement on the ballot is based on renewing before the deadline. All nominations are due into the Chamber’s email by this Friday, Nov. 13 at 5:00 pm. Voting must be in by Fri. Nov. 20 at 5 pm. Mandie will handle sending bios out and tabulating the votes.
Welcome Bags: Mandie has received some new materials. There will be about 50 bags to be distributed.
Lunch n Learn: So far only one person has signed up. Therefore, it will be cancelled. With returning to Phase II Covid-19 restrictions, it is difficult to have indoor eating and a group no larger than ten. The group agreed to resume the luncheons on January 20 if indoor dining will be allowed by then. Having a speaker will draw more interest.
Christmas on State: The Park District will not be having any activities that day. Instead they will have a social distanced drive by Santa on Dec. 18. Kristy will get Santa’s non-North Pole contact information. Tim has a suit. The township his indicated that there will be a Christmas tree in Time Square.
Parade: Mandie will turn in a parade permit, and she will publicize a parade since it is better to plan the event and then cancel rather than have to scramble at the last minute to put the event together. Kevin noted that inviting ATVs and golf carts was not a good idea since most are not street legal, would not be able to get into town since they can only go on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less, and do not have head and tail lights sufficient to see and be seen in the dark. Mandie will contact Ozinga about having the Merry Mixer in the parade again.
The Scavenger Hunt: will be cancelled for this year due to covid’s rising numbers.
Letters to Santa: Mandie will put the mailbox out the day after Thanksgiving in Time Square. Kristy has the key for the mailbox lock. Letters must be in by Dec. 11. Becky and Mary Kay volunteered to respond to the letters.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 8 at 3:30 pm.
